This is my second semester of having an English class. In my first semester I realized I was not that strong of a writer. I progressed a little throughout the semester. As I started my second semester, I took initiative to really improve on my writing. I think I really started understanding the actual concept of a good essay. Paragraph unity is something I saw improve on my papers. Getting a good topic sentence and supporting it with clear evidence is what I saw improvement on. Also, my wording itself improved to a more academic style. I wasn’t using anymore jargon, instead using more intelligent words.
I also need to still improve on a lot of areas. English 102 really got into more of a depth into the actual structure of a paper. Kitchen sink paragraphs, nay sayers, hit lists, checklists, grenade quote etc. These are rules or guide lines that were supposed to follow to write a correct essay. One thing I really need to work on is following the correct MLA guidelines. My work cited page hasn’t been the best I need to improve on following the correct guidelines. Also, Grenade quotes where kind of a struggle for me. I need to have the top bun, the quote, and the bottom bun to make a quote correct.
